TIPS TO KEEP MOVING CLAIMS DOWN

TEL : 025556399           Email : sales@apexglc.com              web : www.apexglc.com

Claims aren’t good for your customers, for you or for us. That’s why it’s important that we all work together to prevent damages. Imagine these two scenarios:
  1. The moving insurance policy requires that mattresses be packed in a carton. The customer knows this, but the moving team does not show up with a carton, so they let it slide. The mattress is damaged in route and the customer files a claim.
  2. The moving insurance policy dictates that a large piece of office equipment should be un assembled and moved per the manufacturer’s recommendations (which were located and provided to the moving team). However, upon arrival, the moving team decides to do it differently. The item is damaged, and a claim is filed.
In both scenarios, customers are placed in an awkward situation. They expect their moving team to have the expertise to do the right thing. And, they hesitate to override the moving team’s recommendations. But, when the moving team is wrong, and a claim ensues, customer satisfaction takes a nosedive. When they purchase moving insurance, they expect the approved moving companies to know the packing requirements.
Follow these 8 tips to reduce moving insurance claims:
  1. Refer to the Moving Insurance Quality Control Manual provided last year. If you do not have this, contact us . Train your team on the requirements outlined in this manual.
  2. Be sure to avoid the two biggest packing mistakes: Mattresses and electronics.
  3. Mattresses and Box Springs are specifically excluded from coverage unless packed by the mover in mattress cardboard moving cartons specifically designed for this purpose. Shrink-wrap or mattress bags/covers alone do not constitute proper protection.
  4. TVs must be professionally packed in a flat screen TV carton, original carton with the original Styrofoam, or crated in a wooden crate. TVs wrapped only in cut down cardboard or moving blankets will be denied. TV must be unpacked by the movers at destination and any damage noted on the Movers Bill of Lading, Inventory or Delivery Receipt signed by all parties.
  5. Make sure moving trucks are packed with necessary packing supplies (like mattress cartons) before each move.
  6. Create a quality control process to ensure that your team members don’t “go rogue” and do something different than what’s required.
  7. Use the examples above to create “aha” moments in your training. Ask them how they would feel if they were the customer in each of these scenarios.
  8. Make the connection for your team. Help them see how every claim gone wrong can result in a bad review for your company, and less business over time.
Please review your Quality Control manual today. It is a requirement of being part of the Moving Insurance network. If you are unable to meet these requirements, please contact us.

Items which normally movers wont take - Here you need to know

Figuring out what movers won’t move can be confusing and stressful. After all, it’s not every day that you pack up everything and move across the country or even across town. Before you start packing your possessions, it’s important to know about the things movers won’t move. You certainly don’t want to have to repack anything.

Movers won’t move

  1. Plants. One of the things that long distance movers won’t move is plants. It is illegal to transport plants more than 150 miles without a special license. This is because pests, such as the emerald ash borer or other predators, can hitch a ride on your house plant and allow those pests to be introduced into a new area.

  2. Hazardous materials. You may not stop to consider them as hazardous, but paint, aerosol cans, paint thinner, batteries, fire extinguishers and other such items. Most movers, including Red Ball, will give you a list of the hazardous materials that movers won’t move. However, a good rule of thumb is that if you can’t ship it or dispose of it in your regular trash collection, your movers probably won’t be able to move it. The best plan is to use up such items before you move and dispose properly of the ones that are left over.

  3. Perishable food. It just makes sense; movers won’t move anything that will spoil, such as perishable food, frozen food or open containers. It’s best to consume what you can before the move and/or move your frozen food in a cooler yourself.

  4. Explosives. Of course! It’s a given that movers won’t move ammunition, black powder, primers, propellants, or even souvenir explosives you may have collected.

  5. Pets. Do we really have to say this? Take your pet(s) in the car or the plane with you. Pets are just another of the things movers won’t move. (There are Pet Relocation companies specialized in this)

  6. Flammable items. These are also hazardous materials, so use up or discard appropriately any kerosene, charcoal, lighter fluid, paint remover and the like before the move.

  7. Corrosives. Items such as muriatic acid, nitric acid and batteries with acid, are items that movers won’t move. If moving any batteries make sure they are the non spillable gel-type.

  8. Valuables. Valuables, such as cash, important documents, jewelry and stock certificates have no place in a moving van. While these items aren’t technically among the things movers won’t move, it just doesn’t make sense to risk losing them amid your other possessions during the move.

  9. Power Equipment with Fuel. The list of things movers won’t move also includes power equipment with fuel in the tank. This includes motorcycles, lawn mowers, weed eaters, and so forth. Before movers will move these items, you must drain the fuel or run the item(s) until the fuel reserve is completely empty. Be sure to do this at least 24 hours before loading.

  10. Special Items. Red Ball is different! Some movers decline to move extremely heavy items, such as grand pianos, pool tables and hot tubs. Red Ball is a full service household goods mover that can move just about anything, including your car, piano, pool table and so forth.

Tips for moving in the summer heat

Summer is prime time for moving, especially for families with school aged children. Warm weather, clear skies, and longer days help with moving in the summer months.
However, depending on where you live, you may also encounter extreme heat, sudden thunderstorms, and other circumstances that make moving a bit more difficult. Use these tips to be better prepared for whatever summer brings you.

Prepare for the Heat and Manage Labor

  • Work with your movers to select a time of the day to move, preferably early or late in the day to avoid the mid-day sun and the hottest temperatures.
  • Wear comfortable, loose clothes made with breathable material, such as linen or cotton.
  • Ensure that your professional movers have considerable experience and knowledge about working in hot conditions. If you choose not to hire professionals, find family and friends who can help you with the moving to spread out the burden.
  • Schedule your power shutoff for the day after you move. This way you can use fans to help keep the home cool as you move. At the same time, schedule your service to turn on the day prior to your move. You will have your air conditioners and other cooling systems working when you arrive.
  • Plan your work evenly. An hour of work each day for several weeks before the move is more manageable in high summer heat.
  • Always keep a large bottle of water with you, and keep it refilled throughout the day. The average person needs about three liters of water per day to stay hydrated. You will need more if you are working strenuously in higher temperatures.

Choosing a Great Professional Mover

  • Speak with your Apex Global Logistics to be connected with our vast network of vetted, experienced moving professionals that will help you move to your new home, whether it’s across town or across the country.
  • Consider the price, but consider other factors as well in your decision making. A mover who charges more but has qualified workers and keeps your household goods safe is worth every penny.
  • Look for a mover who has experience moving in higher temperatures.
  • Get an estimate in advance from at least three movers and eliminate any companies that seem too high or too low.
Your  is here to help you with planning and scheduling your summer move. We offer this service free of charge and with no obligation to you. Contact us today!

Moving to Abu Dhabi

Moving to Abu Dhabi

As an expat moving to Abu Dhabi, you’ll experience a life full of variety in the second largest city of the UAE. However, before you rush to prepare for Abu Dhabi, read our InterNations Expat Guide to make sure you’ve done your homework concerning visa options, work permits, and transportation!
Sheikh Zayed Mosque is the biggest mosque in the UAE.
    • Prepare for hot weather and a desert-like climate and beware of the unpredictable sandstorms in the summer.
    • Expats from 34 countries can get their visa on arrival in Abu Dhabi, but others must apply in advance so check with your local embassy.
    • Public transport is affordable and easily accessible in Abu Dhabi and there are even specialized forms of transport for woman and children only.
Moving to Abu Dhabi gives you the chance to fully appreciate this emirate’s diversity. Due to its combination of modernity and tradition, you get the chance to learn about its culture and to enjoy great leisure activities during your free time.
Expats will also experience an emirate proud of its time-honored customs. Camel races and dhow sailing, as well as different cultural events, make moving to Abu Dhabi the beginning of your journey into the cultural heart of the UAE.

    From Desert to Oasis

The destination is the northeastern part of the Arabian Gulf, with Abu Dhabi City located on an island 250 meters off the shore. This place has a beautiful coastline and two bridges connecting it to the mainland. On the Corniche promenade, you can go for a walk, ride your bike or take in the breathtaking view.
The emirate itself borders Oman in the east, Saudi Arabia in the south, and Dubai in the northeast. Expats moving to Abu Dhabi can visit some of the islands along the 600 kilometers of coastline, with sandy white beaches and turquoise water surrounding them. You get to experience a diverse landscape with beautiful sand dunes, the legendary Rub Al-Khali (Empty Quarter) and the sabkha (salt flats) by the coast.
Another important sight in Abu Dhabi is the garden city of Al Ain, located on the Omani border near the majestic Hajar Mountains. With its oases, Al Ain offers expats moving to Abu Dhabi a greener environment than any other place in the country.

The Climate in Abu Dhabi: Hot and Humid

The summer months in Abu Dhabi are rather hot and humid, with maximum temperatures at over 40°C. Adding to this, there are unpredictable sandstorms in summer, sometimes even affecting those moving to Abu Dhabi City. However, the winter months from October to March are fairly cool in comparison (around 15°C), with hardly any rainfall at all before February.

    Visa Requirements for Abu Dhabi

For expats moving to Abu Dhabi requirements vary greatly, depending on their country of origin. Nationals from GCC countries such as Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar or Saudi Arabia need not expect any bureaucratic obstacles. Expats from other countries, however, need to secure a visa before moving to Abu Dhabi.
If your passport contains a stamp from the Israeli immigration authorities, showing that you have recently been to Israel, it is probably wise to get in touch with your nearest UAE Embassy or consulate. Ask whether this might cause any difficulties for you. It shouldn’t be a problem for most tourists, visitors, or expats, but it can’t hurt to be on the safe side.
