SPECIAL INSTRUCTION FOR IMPORT OF CARPETS, PAINTING, ART EFFECTS, ANTIQUES AND ITEMS  OF HISTORICAL VALUE.

When importing carpets, paintings, art effect, antiques and item of historical value into Georgia, it is strongly suggested that a set of original photographs per item accompanies the shipping documentation.  Duplicate photographs of each item should be sent to your origin agent’s office in advance by courier, enabling them to get customs endorsement on the back of each photograph at the time of import customs inspection of the shipment.  This will help the owner tremendously to avoid problems with customs authorities at the time of export of these items out of Georgia. The photograph must have dimensions and value of the item shown, mentioned where possible on the back or front of each photo.
Export of locally purchased carpets and paintings is allowed, unless the items are not considered antique and of cultural value. The permission from Georgian Ministry of Culture is required to export locally purchased carpets, paintings, art effect, antiques and other art effects.
