ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES AND TOBACCO

Customs Regulations: High duties apply. Only 2.5 litres of alcoholic beverages allowed free of duties as accompanied baggage. Only 400 cigarettes or 50 cigars or 250 gr. of tobacco allowed free of duties as accompanied baggage

DIPLOMATIC REMOVALS

Required Documents:  (1) OBL/AWB (2) Free entry permit or Resolution issued by Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Peru and signed and stamped by the ‘Direccion General de Aduanas’
Customs Regulations: No inspection if ‘First Installation’ of owner. They are exempt of duties and taxes, after their Organizations procedure in the Foreign Affairs Office and present exonerator documents.

FIREARMS AND WEAPONS

Required Documents:  (1) Proof of ownership (2) Previous License must be obtained from Ministry of the Interior – DICAMEC
Customs Regulations: No automatic arms allowed. Maximum caliber is 0.38. Subject to confiscation if requirements are not met.

HOUSEHOLD GOODS AND PERSONAL EFFECTS

Required Documents:  (1) Original OBL/AWB (2) Packing/Inventory list (3) Original Passport
Customs Regulations: Shipments of used household goods and personal effects must pay customs taxes of about 35.7% FOB value. Peruvian Customs will value used household goods at a rate lower than their acquisition cost, and will apply the above mentioned tax therefore. Owner must be in Peru at time of clearance. Shipment must arrive 30 days before, up to 120 days after, the date of owner’s arrival. Items such as adult bicycles, tools, sporting articles, computers and their parts, wines and liquors, foodstuff, etc., are not considered as HHG’s.

RemarksTo obtain resolution for partial reduction of duties, please allow 3 to 4 weeks. Shipment must be programmed to arrive once obtained Resolution. Shipments must arrive not prior to 30 days of the arrival date of owner, nor 120 days later.
SPECIAL CONDITION: In accordance to the Vienna Convention and Montreal Protocol, the Peruvian Government has issued a directive regarding the importation, production, consumption and commercialization of equipment which uses any gases that may damage the ozone layer.
FROM NOW ON any equipment, including refrigerators, air conditioners, freezers, etc., shipped to PERU which may contain gases that may be harmful to the ozone layer must be accompanied by the following documentation in order to be cleared by Peruvian customs: Original Declaration from the manufacturer indicating the type of gas used in the operation of a particular piece of equipment Catalog or Technical manual with equipment specifications
If the above documentation is not included with the equipment, the items will NOT clear customs and will be retained by customs authorities. Check with your destination agent for further instructions.

VEHICLES

Required Documents:  (1) OBL/AWB (2) Original Commercial invoice (3) Inspection Certificate
Customs Regulations: Diplomatic and members of International Organizations are exempt of duties. Automobiles must pay customs taxes of approximately 49.5% of CIF value. Importation of used vehicles will have a 10% tax reduction per year’s usage – up to a maximum of five years – on its original purchase value. As per last Peruvian Regulations, vehicles must pass an inspection at origin. This inspection must be forwarded by destination agent to specialized companies as COTECNA, SGS, BUREAU VERITAS or SSI. As soon as specialized company issues Inspection Certificate, automobile must be shipped that instant.
